Monito Privacy Policy

Monito is a video editing app built to keep your content private. Your video and audio files never leave your device unless you explicitly export or share them. The AI features (AI Edit, Auto Clips, Post Generator) never send your raw footage. They use only the text and context the AI needs to make decisions: prompts, generated text, transcripts, timing data, and descriptions derived from your media. Where that is processed depends on the AI engine, as described in How Your Data Is Processed below.

Monito has no user accounts and never asks for your name or email. It does collect limited usage, location, purchase, and advertising-attribution data, linked to an anonymous app identifier, as described below.

Identifiers: Monito creates an anonymous app user ID (generated by RevenueCat). Our purchase, analytics, notification, and Cloud AI services use it to recognize the same installation. If you allow tracking, your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) is also shared with TikTok and Meta, as described under Advertising & Attribution Data.

Usage Data: We use PostHog to understand how Monito is used and to improve it. It records app events such as app opens, which features you start and complete, paywall views, plan selections, export settings, and AI engine changes, along with your device model and platform. These events are linked to your app user ID. We do not record your screen, and we never collect the content of your videos, audio, or scripts.

Location: PostHog estimates your location from your IP address, including your country, city, and approximate coordinates. This location is linked to your app user ID. Monito never uses GPS and never asks for location permission.

Purchase Data: When you subscribe to Monito Pro or buy the Lifetime purchase, purchase data (such as transaction history, product ownership, and subscription status) is collected and linked to your app user ID by Apple and our payment processor RevenueCat. We use it to manage your subscription or purchase, restore purchases across your devices, and measure how our paywall performs.

Advertising & Attribution Data: On iPhone and iPad, Monito includes the TikTok and Meta (Facebook) SDKs to measure and optimize the advertising campaigns that bring new users to Monito. They receive app events such as installs, app launches, free-trial starts, and subscriptions, including price. If you allow tracking when prompted (Apple's App Tracking Transparency), these events include your device's advertising identifier and may be used to track you across apps and websites owned by other companies. If you decline, your advertising identifier is not shared, but TikTok and Meta may still receive these app events without it. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

Notifications: On iPhone and iPad, Monito uses OneSignal to send push notifications. OneSignal receives a push token for your device and tags describing how you use the app (such as which features you have tried, which Pro feature you viewed, and whether you have Pro), linked to your app user ID, so notifications are relevant to you. You can turn notifications off at any time in Settings.

AI Edit, Auto Clips, and Post Generator need at least one of the following AI engines:

• Apple Intelligence: available only on devices that support it and have it enabled. On iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and visionOS 27 and later, Apple Intelligence may process requests on Apple's Private Cloud Compute servers when you are online. According to Apple, data sent to Private Cloud Compute is used only to fulfill your request and is never stored or made accessible to Apple. Apple sets a daily limit that depends on your iCloud plan. When you are offline or past that limit, and on earlier OS versions, Apple Intelligence runs entirely on your device.
• Cloud AI: works on any device with an internet connection, with the Pro subscription or the free trial allowance. Requests go to our server and to Anthropic's Claude API, linked to your app user ID so usage limits can be enforced. Cloud AI is not included with the Lifetime purchase.
• Downloadable on-device local model: available on devices that don't support Apple Intelligence but have at least 4 GB of RAM and about 2 GB of free storage. Runs entirely on your device.

By default, Monito uses Apple Intelligence through Private Cloud Compute when it is available, then Cloud AI when your plan allows it, then an on-device engine. You can choose a specific engine in Settings. Apple Intelligence and the local model are mutually exclusive based on hardware: each device qualifies for one or the other, never both. At least one eligible engine must be available for these features to work.

• Auto Captions and AutoCut run on your device and require a device that supports Apple's speech recognition.
• AI Voice generates speech entirely on your device after downloading its voice model.
• 4K export requires sufficient device storage and processing capability.

Anthropic: When you use Cloud AI, prompts, generated text, transcripts, timing data, and media-derived context are sent to Anthropic's Claude API through our infrastructure. Anthropic does not use this data to train its models. See Anthropic's privacy policy.

RevenueCat: Manages subscriptions and in-app purchases and generates your anonymous app user ID. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.

PostHog: Product analytics. Receives the usage and location data described above, processed in the United States. See PostHog's privacy policy.

OneSignal: Push notifications. Receives your push token and app-usage tags. See OneSignal's privacy policy.

TikTok: Monito uses the TikTok Business SDK to measure and optimize our advertising. It receives the app-event and attribution data described above, including your advertising identifier only if you allow tracking. See TikTok's privacy policy.

Meta (Facebook): Monito uses the Facebook SDK to measure and optimize our advertising. It receives the app-event and attribution data described above, including your advertising identifier only if you allow tracking. See Meta's privacy policy.

Anthropic: Powers Cloud AI, as described above.

Apple: Monito uses Apple frameworks such as Speech Recognition and Apple Intelligence. Speech Recognition runs on your device. Apple Intelligence runs on your device or on Apple's Private Cloud Compute, as described above. Apple's own privacy terms apply. See Apple's Privacy Policy.

Monito accesses your photo library and files only when you explicitly import videos or audio. Exported videos are saved to your photo library or shared via the system share sheet. We never upload your videos, photos, or audio files to our servers or any third party.

Monito does not knowingly collect any data from children or any other users beyond the data described above.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected with an updated date at the top of this page.
